The Sylvan Lake Wranglers are moving on to round three of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League playoffs after defeating the Airdrie Techmation Thunder in the best-of-five series in round two.
The best-of-five series against the Thunder started on Feb. 21, with the Wranglers having a home-ice advantage.
While the Thunder opened the scoring in Game 1 with a goal from Zachariah Hardy, followed by another goal scored later in the period during a power play by Grayden Ewing, it didn't take long for the Wranglers to catch up.
For the Wranglers Xaiden Bignell, and Riley Yzerman scored in the first to end the period to tie the game.
In the second and third periods, the Wrangler's goalie was able to shut out the Thunder, and Brody Pearson and Aydden Shaw scored two more goals for the team.
The Wranglers won 4-2.
The following evening, the Wranglers were on the road to play the Thunder at the Rob Ebbesen Arena.
In the second game of the series, the Wranglers were the first to score with Maddex Bignell and Owen Callow both putting the puck in the net during the first period.
On the power play in the second, Tyson Tisdale scored a goal for the Wranglers.
However, Thunder players Tyson Sandhu and Ben Holden scored to bring the game to a score of 3-2 at the end of the second.
In the third, the Wranglers continued to add to the lead with Riley Teulon and Tyler Gyori scoring.
The Wranglers won the game with a final score of 5-2.
The Wranglers returned home to the NexSource Centre for the third game of the series against the Thunder on Friday, Feb. 28.
In the first period, M. Bignell and Shaw scored for the Wranglers.
in the second, the Wranglers continued to pick up momentum, scoring six more times, with goals done by Hayden Motowylo, Bret Gerrits, Reed Sparrow, Yzerman, Justin Gyori, and Teulon.
This momentum continued in the third with four more goals from T. Gyori, J. Gyori, Motowylo, and M. Bignell.
The game wasn't a complete shut-out, though, as Mason Korf scored in the third for the Thunder.
The Wranglers secured their series win and won the third game with a final score of 12-1.
Next for the team in round three of the playoffs, they will be facing off against the Red Deer Vipers on Friday, March 7 at the NexSource Centre.
Tickets for the game will be available to purchase at the door, and cost $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and children 12 and under can get in for free.
