Here in Sylvan Lake, Spice Junction has become a beloved place to dine for those who enjoy authentic Indian cuisine.

Owner Sachin Uniyal and his staff share a passion to bring diverse flavours to the community.

Sachin, who has called Sylvan Lake home for the past two years, offers a wealth of experience from his global culinary journey. “Every country has its own unique spices and flavours, and I’ve been fortunate to learn from some of the best,” he shares. From India to Dubai, England to Vancouver, Sachin’s travels have deeply influenced his cooking style, allowing him to offer an authentic taste of India while adapting to local preferences.

Taking over the restaurant from the previous owner, Sachin saw an opportunity to introduce the community to a broader range of Indian dishes. He expanded the menu to include new dishes like curry-based wings – think butter chicken wings and vindaloo wings – and enhanced portion sizes to provide better value. “The world is changing, and food is becoming more diverse. I wanted to reflect that diversity in Sylvan Lake,” Sachin says.

One of Sachin’s core values is sourcing high-quality ingredients. He works with local farmers in Calgary and Edmonton to ensure freshness while also incorporating authentic Indian spices known for their health benefits. “We use turmeric, which is great for health, and many other spices that are beneficial in the long term,” he says.

Supporting the community through special promotions during slower months, on Feb. 14, guests can enjoy a three-course meal starting at $29.99 with the freedom to choose from any menu items, while wines will be available at a 50% discount.

Additionally, during January and February, diners can enjoy complimentary naan with orders over $50. “It’s my way of saying thank you to the community,” he says.

Sachin’s commitment to offering customizable meals – whether mild, medium, hot, or “Indian hot” – ensures there’s something for everyone. His dedication to culinary excellence and community engagement has solidified Spice Junction’s reputation as a must-visit destination in Sylvan Lake.

Looking ahead, Sachin is excited to continue introducing residents to the rich tapestry of Indian cuisine. “It’s all about bringing people together through food,” he says. With his extensive background, innovative menu and heartfelt approach, Sachin is elevating the dining experience in Sylvan Lake, one spice-filled dish at a time.
