15 year old charged with vehicle thefts following pursuit

RCMP attended a couple of fights at Benalto Rodeo, one involving 12 to 15 males.

Saturday, July 7th

1:51 a.m. – RCMP attended a couple of fights at Benalto Rodeo, one involving 12 to 15 males. A male was reported to be unresponsive on the ground but when RCMP and EMS arrived, the male was moved from the area by members of the crowd and no one was present for questioning. The second fight also dispersed quickly before members arrived. As a result, no charges were laid.

Sunday, July 8th

5:19 a.m. - A male is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm and mischief under $5,000 in relation to a domestic dispute on 44th Street in Sylvan Lake. Neighbours called 911 after a female fled to their residence crying and bleeding from the face. A male was taken into custody at the scene.

7:43 p.m. – Police were called to a parking lot on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake after reports of a male punching a female. The male also punched a vehicle mirror causing injury to his hand. He was arrested at the scene and treated by EMS. He is facing charges of assault and obstructing a peace officer.

Monday, July 9th

9:35 p.m. – RCMP attended Lakeshore Drive after a complaint of people in their early twenties drinking alcohol on the lake shore and launching each other into the lake from a shopping cart. Members advised the party to leave the area and no further incidents were reported.

Tuesday, July 10th

2:25 a.m. - Two males are facing charges of mischief under $5,000 after a front window was smashed at a business on 53rd Street in Sylvan Lake. Video footage of the outside of the business resulted in two males being arrested. Alcohol was a factor in the incident.

11:07 a.m. - A male is facing three charges in relation to a dangerous driving complaint on Highway 20 near Jarvis Bay Drive. An off-duty RCMP member spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, almost causing a head-on collision. The vehicle ended up in a ditch near Jarvis Bay where the male driver was arrested at the scene and charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving.

Wednesday, July 11th

3:15 a.m. - A 15 year old male is facing nine charges including theft over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and break and enter into a residence following a police pursuit in Sylvan Lake. The youth was in a stolen vehicle on Lakeshore Drive which members attempted to stop. The driver fled the area, resulting in a pursuit which ended with the youth abandoning the vehicle at a crosswalk and fleeing on foot.

Another vehicle, which was stolen from a residence in Sylvan Lake a short time later, was then spotted heading out of town. Again, the young driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot through a canola field. He was eventually apprehended by RCMP and the canine unit after scaling a grain bin on farm property.

5:34 p.m. – RCMP have laid charges against a woman for breaching the conditions of her probation orders. The female was found intoxicated in the company of a child on Petro Beach and was taken into custody. Her conditions included refraining from the consumption of alcohol. She was charged with two counts of failing to comply with those conditions.

Thursday, July 5th

Correction - 2:32 a.m. - RCMP were called to Chefs Bar and Grill on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake after reports of a male bleeding with severe injuries as a result of a fight that started outside the bar. The male sustained several broken bones to his face and a broken jaw. A second male is facing a charge of aggravated assault.
