Sylvan Lake resident and local pharmacy owner, Onsy Tawadrous, has set his eyes upon getting elected for an opportunity to serve as a councillor, and give back to the community.

Tawadrous said, “Our first involvement with the community was right after we moved to the town, we joined the Alliance (Community) Church, where we were welcomed and quickly found myself immersed into the culture and the community. With my wonderful wife we started our own pharmacy (Pharmasave) so we can serve our beloved big family of Sylvan Lake the way we love to serve. Not having any direct family member in Canada we found the community of Sylvan Lake to be our family.” He added, “Serving as a councillor to me is a way to say thank you to our big family of Sylvan Lake in a practical way. I am approaching this opportunity with a grateful heart eager to pour my love with my experience and knowledge to the table alongside other wonderful councillors.”

Born and brought up in Egypt, Tawadrous moved to Sylvan Lake with his wife in 2011. With a degree in accounting, and several years of experience working in the field of community development, business management in the oil and gas industry, and the agriculture industry, Tawadrous possesses a well-rounded skill set to help make decisions to improve life in the community. He has also been an active community volunteer, being a member of the Rotary Club of Sylvan Lake, serving as a board member for the Senior’s Lodge, work with the town on the Economic development advisory committee, having served as a board member and a chairman with Central Alberta Refugee Effort Committee, among others.

If elected, Tawadrous said that he will focus on the addition of a decent and affordable housing for community seniors, and add resources to support community groups/bodies working with families with young children. Being a professional developer and business owner, he shared that one of his goals is to enable better grounds for local businesses to thrive. By attempting to lower taxes and utility bills, Tawadrous shared that he also aims to help lower financial burden for members of the community.

“I am asking you to give me the chance to serve you by voting for me. I will be able to offer an additional perspective to the table which I am sure will enrich the decision making,” Tawadrous concluded.
