Apartment building, storage facility bumped construction statistics over $12M

Permits for a new four storey, 73-unit apartment building and a seven building mini storage facility added over $12 million

Permits for a new four storey, 73-unit apartment building and a seven building mini storage facility added over $12 million to Sylvan Lake’s building statistics last month.

August’s total was $14,558,532, the highest single month total since March 2012, according to figures released by the town Tuesday. That figure took the year-to-date tally to $37.698 million, down slightly from last year’s eight month tally of $40.760 million.

The apartment building is now under construction by Laebon Developments in Beacon Hill subdivision on Broadway Rise, beside the Axxess building which was built several years ago. Its construction is valued at $8,662,330.

The mini storage facility is being built at 3 Industrial Way, beside the town’s new municipal operations building. It will consist of seven buildings and 42,000 square feet at a cost of $3,570,000.

Two other commercial projects were permitted — renovations at Sylvan Lake Harbour’s building at the marina and an occupancy permit for Indian Flame & Pizza in the 24/7 Convenience Store at the strip mall in Lakeway Landing.

Nine new single family homes were permitted in August, five in Ryders Ridge and four in Beacon Hill. Their construction value ranged from $171,720 to $260,275, with five of the nine under $200,000.

Other permits were issued for 11 decks, nine basement developments, five detached garages, two secondary suites, three hot tubs and two demolitions.

So far this year, permits have been issued for 75 new homes (64 last year) and 89 multi-family units (88 last year).
