Busy period continues for Sylvan Lake RCMP

See a summary of recent police activity in this week's RCMP Report, provided by the Sylvan Lake RCMP.

May 23

6:17 a.m. – RCMP are investigating the theft of a vehicle in Bentley. A Ford F250 was stolen while parked in front of a residence on 52nd Avenue. Some tools were stolen along with the vehicle. The truck was later recovered by Red Deer RCMP.

1:33 p.m. – A two-vehicle collision involving a car and a tractor resulted in injuries. Police were called to Highway 11 near Benalto after reports that a car with four occupants collided with a tractor which proceeded through a stop sign onto the highway. The occupants of the car sustained minor lacerations. An 89-year-old male driving the tractor sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital. He is charged with failing to proceed safely after stopping at an intersection and operating a motor vehicle without holding an operator’s license.

3:11 p.m. – A noise complaint resulted in the arrest of a male. RCMP arrived at a residence on 46th Street in Sylvan Lake after a complaint of loud music was reported to police. A subsequent check on the male showed an outstanding warrant. As a result, a 28-year-old Sylvan Lake male was arrested at the scene and transported to cells.

3:22 p.m. – A report of property damage was received by RCMP dispatch at a residence on 38th Street in Sylvan Lake. The owner of the property notified police that the front window and door jamb were damaged on his summer cottage. An investigation is continuing.

5:49 p.m. – RCMP responded to a complaint of a potential impaired driving situation on Jarvis Bay Drive. A complainant advised that a group of people were drinking on Petro Beach and appeared as though they were going to enter into a vehicle and drive. The parked vehicle was located by police with the occupants inside. Two males, aged 23 and 30, of Edmonton and a 29-year-old female, also of Edmonton, are facing alcohol-related charges and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose after two weapons, a machete and a club, were seized.

11:12 p.m. – A 42-year-old Sylvan Lake male is facing charges in relation to a domestic dispute on 33rd Street in Sylvan Lake. Police attended an establishment after receiving a call from a 35-year-old female that her common law spouse had attended her workplace and began throwing full beer cans at her causing minor injuries. Alcohol was a factor and the male was located by RCMP a short time later. He is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle; failure to provide a breath sample; and assault with a weapon.

May 24

2:32 a.m. – Impaired driving charges have been laid against a 22-year-old Sylvan Lake male. RCMP on patrol at Range Road 10 and Highway 11 in Red Deer County intercepted a suspect vehicle after a witness observed a vehicle spin out of control and proceed westbound in an eastbound lane. The vehicle was stopped after traveling through a stop sign without slowing. The driver is charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level over .08.

4:29 a.m. – Two males are facing charges in relation to a fight in Sylvan Lake. RCMP members observed a disturbance on Lakeshore Drive near 49th Street. One male was assaulted sustaining injuries to the face. A second male, when questioned, attempted to continue the assault on the first male and then fled from police. As a result, a 34-year-old male from Carvel is charged with fighting in public and a 44-year-old Quebec male is charged with fighting in public and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

3:10 p.m. – A 911 call was received of an intoxicated male walking along 60th Street in Sylvan Lake. A witness advised police that the male was stumbling along the street near Westwood Crescent and was concerned for his safety. A 55-year-old Sylvan Lake male was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells until sober.

May 25

6:41 a.m. – An all-terrain vehicle and a trailer were stolen from a storage facility on Range Road 22 in Lacombe County. RCMP were called to investigate at Sunhaven RV and Boat Storage after the owners reported that the fencing was cut and the vehicles removed from the compound.

5:49 p.m. – A report of an erratic driver on Highway 11 near Highway 20 has resulted in multiple charges against a Stettler resident. Witnesses reported a vehicle swerving all over the road and cutting off other vehicles. The suspect vehicle was determined to be stolen and was stopped by police near Benalto. A 38-year-old female was subsequently charged with impaired driving; failing to submit to an evaluation; two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000; illegal possession of government documents; and transporting liquor in a vehicle within easy access of an occupant.

May 26

5:04 a.m. – A vehicle theft is being investigated by RCMP. The owner of a GMC Sierra truck reported that his vehicle was stolen while it was parked outside his garage at a residence on 45th Street Crescent in Sylvan Lake. He advised that his wallet was also stolen.

May 27

5:33 a.m. – RCMP are investigating the theft of a vehicle from a Sylvan Lake residential address. A Nissan Titan was stolen from outside a residence on Rozier Close. The owner advised that he parked the vehicle in the driveway overnight but had possession of the keys.

8:36 a.m. – An investigation is underway into a break and enter at the Town of Sylvan Lake Public Works yard. The main garage door and the main door to the building were accessed with a shed lock also pried off. Nothing appeared to be stolen.
