Charges changed following death of driver

Charges against a driver involved in a two vehicle head-on collision on Highway 20 Sept. 21 have been upgraded

Charges against a driver involved in a two vehicle head-on collision on Highway 20 Sept. 21 have been upgraded following the death of the other driver.

Matthew Lawrence Engelman, 24, of Lacombe has now been charged with impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and refusing to provide a breath sample.

Previously he’d been charged with impaired and dangerous driving causing bodily harm as well as refusing to provide a breath sample.

He’s set to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Oct. 17, according to a news release from RCMP Cpl. Kevin Halwa.

Randy Pinch, 41, of Breton, was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to University of Alberta Hospital after being cut out of the mangled ruins of his Ford Ranger in the 8:40 p.m. crash. He died of his injuries on Oct. 2 while still in hospital.
