Charges pending in afternoon stabbing at restaurant

Saturday, August 24th

1:16 a.m. – RCMP attended a fight outside a residence on Lucky Place in Sylvan Lake. Ten people were witnessed fighting on the street, most of them intoxicated. One of the participants, a 23-year-old Edmonton male, was arrested after approaching RCMP members in a threatening manner. Another male, a 27-year-old Brooks resident, had been assaulted with a bottle being thrown at him causing injury to his face. He did not want to press charges stating the fight was consensual. All parties involved were lodged in cells until sober for their safety as well as the safety of the public.

3:30 a.m. – An Edmonton male is facing charges in relation to vandalism to an acquaintance’s property in Sylvan Lake. The intoxicated male attended a residence on Old Boomer Road and was told to leave by the owner at which time he began to throw patio stones around in the yard and kick the owner’s vehicle extensively. He also threw rocks on the hood, broke the windshield and attempted to tear off the license plate. The 22-year-old male was later arrested at a trailer on 44th Street in Sylvan Lake and is charged with mischief under $5,000.

3:56 a.m. – A 23-year-old male from Red Deer County is facing impaired driving charges as a result of a regular patrol conducted by RCMP in Sylvan Lake. Police observed a pickup truck without a light on the license plate travelling on Sylvan Drive at Whitecap Close. After following for a short time, members observed the driver twice drift over the centre line of the southbound lanes. The driver was stopped and blew a fail on the breathalyzer. He was charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level over .08 and remained in cells until sober.

Thursday, August 29th

4:50 p.m. – An investigation is continuing and charges are pending in relation to the stabbing of a 15-year-old female at Beach Burger restaurant on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. Witnesses report that a verbal argument ensued between the female and a male at the restaurant resulting in the male striking the female in the head and then pulling out a knife and stabbing her in the head. The male then fled the area and was later arrested by RCMP at a residence in Sylvan Lake. The 19-year-old male, a recent resident of Sylvan Lake, is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order.

Friday, August 30th

6:47 a.m. – A two vehicle collision on Highway 20 resulted in charges being laid against a Sylvan Lake male. A 68-year-old Red Deer male was travelling northbound on Highway 20 when he stopped to turn left, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. The 19-year-old male driving behind him failed to stop and rear ended his truck, destroying both vehicles. Fortunately, no immediate injuries were reported. Police attended and towed the vehicles from the scene. A charge of following too closely has been laid against the 19-year-old driver.

9:00 p.m. – An RCMP member on routine patrol observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 20 without headlights. The female driver was stopped and a strong smell of marijuana was noted coming from the vehicle. A total of 135 grams of marijuana was seized from the vehicle. A 23-year-old Sylvan Lake resident was arrested and is now facing drug charges.
