Sylvan Lake town council on Monday awarded a contract for a reconstruction project on 43 Street.

Sylvan Lake town council on Monday awarded a contract for a reconstruction project on 43 Street that includes the installation of traffic signals at 43 Street and 47 Avenue.

The contract was awarded to Red Deer’s Border Paving, whose bid totalling $1,611,655,70 including GST was the only one submitted.

The project will see 43 Street rehabilitated between 47 Avenue and 49 Avenue, where a number of road base failures have occurred.

As well, storm drainage will be improved through design changes recommended by the project’s consultant, while a ductile iron water main will also be replaced.

Work on the project will be carried out in July and August to prevent disrupting school traffic. It’s expected to be completed this year, with the new traffic signals in place by the beginning of November.
