A building which has sat empty for about a decade was demolished last week by Dirt Werx.

Al Carberry, owner of the company, said work was originally scheduled for last fall but the weather turned too quickly.

The structure, on 49th Street, behind Beach Burgers, was last used as a sales office for Sylvan Lake Resort and Conference Centre, the ill-fated project which was to replace the old hotel on the corner of Centennial Street and Lakeshore Drive.

The property will remain vacant for the time being. A proposal for the town to lease the property and create a parking lot on it was turned down by councillors earlier this year due to the cost involved.
