Dispute over lawn mowing led to assault charge; several impaired charges laid

RCMP were called to a noise complaint at a residence on 44th Street near 47th Avenue in Sylvan Lake.

Saturday, May 17th

1:20 a.m. - RCMP were called to a noise complaint at a residence on 44th Street near 47th Avenue in Sylvan Lake. The complaint stated approximately 20 people were having a loud party. A warning was given to the owner and no further problems were reported.

Sunday, May 18th

2:00 a.m. - A complaint was received by RCMP regarding an intoxicated female in a vehicle on Hinshaw Drive in Sylvan Lake. The 23-year-old female was sitting in the vehicle and told police that she wanted to sleep in the back of the car. Due to the female’s intoxicated state, she was transported to a hotel for her safety as well as public safety.

2:40 a.m. - A 46-year-old Sylvan Lake male is charged with impaired driving after he was stopped by RCMP. The male was traveling on 50A Avenue at 51A Street in Sylvan Lake and his driving pattern was observed by members as erratic. The male refused to give a breath sample and was charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.

Monday, May 19th

2:00 a.m. - A police officer on patrol on 47th Avenue at Ryders Ridge Boulevard in Sylvan Lake stopped a vehicle as part of an impaired driving investigation. The 43-year-old female driver, a resident of Calgary, refused to provide a breath sample and was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and impaired driving.

Wednesday, May 21st

1:33 a.m. - RCMP were called to a domestic dispute in progress on 49th Street in Sylvan Lake. A 38-year-old male and a 49-year-old female were both intoxicated and arguing. The male was arrested at the scene. He is charged with two counts of assault, mischief under $5,000 and careless use of a firearm. Two unsafely stored firearms were seized from the home.

3:15 p.m. - Another complaint of vandalism to playground equipment was reported at the community centre in Sylvan Lake. Wood on the ship was damaged and broken. Cables to the glider were cut and parts pulled apart. A patrol was made but the vandal or vandals had left the area.

Thursday, May 22nd

3:28 a.m. - RCMP conducted a traffic stop for speeding on 50th Street at Perry Drive in Sylvan Lake when the driver was found to be exhibiting signs of impairment. The 27-year-old female driver from Sylvan Lake was charged with impaired driving after failing a roadside screening device and was released to appear in court. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.

7:48 p.m. - A neighbour dispute resulted in an assault charge being laid against a 36-year-old Wetaskiwin male. A 57-year-old complainant advised that he was getting his lawnmower ready to mow his lawn when the accused came out and told him that he could not mow his lawn after a certain time. The complainant told the accused to return to his yard then the accused assaulted the victim, breaking his glasses. Another neighbour assisted the victim and they held the accused down until police arrived and arrested the male.

Friday, May 23rd

2:27 p.m. - RCMP attended Chief’s Pub and Eatery on Lakeshore Drive after two intoxicated males were reportedly stumbling around on a sidewalk near the establishment. The males were located by police lying on the ground in front of Subway restaurant. Both were arrested for public intoxication. One male was found to be on outstanding warrants and was transported to Red Deer Remand.
