Four single vehicle collisions among files investigated by RCMP

A 911 call was received of a disturbance on Hinshaw Drive.

Saturday, July 26th

12:31 a.m. - A 911 call was received of a disturbance on Hinshaw Drive. A woman was banging and kicking on the door of an apartment when she injured her leg. The 30-year-old female from Sylvan Lake was transported to hospital after RCMP and EMS were called to assist. She was found lying in the hallway with a broken leg. A 33-year-old male from Bentley was also located in the woman’s apartment and arrested after he was found to be breaching no contact conditions.

10:06 p.m. - RCMP attended a residence on Sylvan Drive after a female called to advise that her boyfriend was throwing furniture around and destroying the house. The 34-year-old male was charged with mischief over $5,000. There was significant damage to the property but no one sustained any injuries.

Sunday, July 27th

6:42 a.m. - RCMP and EMS attended a single vehicle rollover off Highway 20 near Sylvan Lake. The 24-year-old male driver from B.C. was found inside the vehicle however he did not sustain any significant injuries. He was taken to hospital as a precaution. He advised that he had been working long shifts and fell asleep at the wheel. Alcohol was not a factor.

2:43 p.m. - Another single vehicle rollover off Township Road 374 in Red Deer County resulted in charges being laid against the male driver. A witness driving a tanker truck reported seeing the vehicle speeding down the highway, lose control and flip onto its roof in the ditch. The male driver told the witness not to contact authorities as he had been drinking. RCMP arrived on scene with EMS. The 49-year-old male driver from Markerville blew a caution on a roadside screening device and received a 72-hour suspension. His vehicle was towed at the scene. The male was also charged with driving at an unreasonable speed and transporting liquor in an open container.

Monday, July 28th

10:29 p.m. - A single vehicle collision on Highway 11 at Highway 781 is under investigation by RCMP. Witnesses reported seeing a car hit the ditch at that location and its four occupants get out of the vehicle, get into another vehicle and leave the scene. Prior to the incident, the driver of the vehicle was seen traveling down 50th Street at a high rate of speed, fail to negotiate a curve to the west and jump two sets of cement curbs destroying the front end of the vehicle.

Tuesday, July 29th

9:55 p.m. - Fire and EMS were called to a single vehicle rollover on a dirt road north of 50th Avenue in Sylvan Lake. The vehicle was found on its side against the trees. The 17-year-old driver was not injured and alcohol was not a factor. The vehicle was towed from the scene. There was no evidence at the scene to lay charges.

Wednesday, July 30th

8:58 p.m. - A 911 call was placed to RCMP after witnesses reported seeing a male assaulting a female on a boat on Sylvan Lake. Police in the RCMP boat pulled the vessel over and questioned the couple. The male showed obvious signs of impairment and a breath sample was requested. The male refused. He was arrested at the scene. A 30-year-old Red Deer male is now facing charges of impaired operation of a boat or vessel; refusal of an approved screening device; driving while disqualified; three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking; assault; and transporting liquor in a vehicle when liquor is within easy access of an occupant.

Thursday, July 31st

12:55 a.m. - A 25-year-old Spruce Grove male is facing an assault charge after an altercation at Fireside Lounge on Lakeshore Drive. A 48-year-old male approached RCMP to advise that he had been assaulted in the restaurant. An independent witness confirmed the assault. The accused was arrested at the scene and formally charged.

Friday, August 1st

12:31 p.m. - RCMP assisted conservation officers in relation to a male breaching a no contact order at Sunbreaker Cove Road. The 28-year-old male from St. Albert was found breaching a no contact order with his 25-year-old girlfriend. He was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking.
