A local fisheries enhancement organization is offering tours of the Tod Creek watershed on the Saanich Peninsula on Sunday, November 5.

Peninsula Streams has a variety of waterway and fish habitat projects either completed or under way in the region. One of those completed projects is the Tod Creek Fishway, an enhanced area around a dam on Tod Creek as it flows into the Tod Inlet near Butchart Gardens in Central Saanich. It was designed to help fish get around Butchart Gardens’ dam, to be able to make it into the upper reached of Tod Creek for spawning opportunities.

Upstream, Peninsula Steams has made improvements to the creek as it passes by the Red Barn Market on West Saanich Roach — not only helping with fish habitat, but working to reduce flooding along portions of the creek. The tour Sunday will highlight those projects and upcoming ones in the region, as well as the history of the watershed.

As of Nov. 2, Peninsula Streams said there were only 10 seats left on the tour bus. They encourage people to contact them at peninsulastreams.ca and click on the “Tod Watershed 2017” link at the top of their home page. The tour runs from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., starting from the Prospect Lake School (321 Prospect Lake Road). The bus departs right at 10 a.m. and be prepared for cool weather, even light rain.
