Impaired driving charges, assaults, cyclist collision

A 37-year-old Sylvan Lake female sustained minor injuries after she was struck by a motorist on Highway 20 at 47th Avenue in Sylvan Lake.

Saturday, August 31st

11:01 a.m. – A 37-year-old Sylvan Lake female sustained minor injuries after she was struck by a motorist on Highway 20 at 47th Avenue in Sylvan Lake. A 59-year-old Bentley male was turning left at the intersection when he collided with the cyclist. He advised that he did not see her in dark clothes as she was crossing the intersection. He has been issued a fine for making an unsafe left turn.

Sunday, September 1st

4:11 a.m. – RCMP observed a vehicle swerving as it was travelling northbound on Highway 20 at approximately 120 km/hour. As the vehicle passed the police cruiser, the driver braked suddenly and was observed well over the fog line almost in the ditch. After following the truck weaving back and forth within its lane of travel and crossing the center line, RCMP pulled over the driver who was given a breathalyzer and failed. A 38-year-old male from Fort McMurray is facing impaired driving charges.

7:30 a.m. – A male reported to police that he was assaulted at Chef Francisco Bar and Grill on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake over the Labour Day long weekend. The 36-year-old male, a resident of Sylvan Lake, advised that he was assaulted by three males who used beer bottles and belts as weapons. The male suffered injury to his eye which required stitches after his glasses were broken as a result of the attack. An investigation into the matter is underway.

11:08 a.m. – A warrant has been issued for a Sylvan Lake female after an assault was reported on 48th Avenue in Sylvan Lake. The female reportedly entered a residence without permission and began a verbal argument with a male resident, known to the female. She then struck the male and fled on her bicycle. The female is facing an assault charge and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.

Friday, September 6th

10:26 p.m. – A traffic stop in Sylvan Lake resulted in impaired driving charges being laid against a 22-year-old Sylvan Lake male. RCMP noticed a truck speeding northbound on 46th Street towards the lake and heading down a back alley near the Raccoon Lodge. The vehicle was stopped and the male driver questioned at which time the police member detected alcohol on the driver’s breath. He was issued a breathalyzer and failed resulting in impaired driving charges. The vehicle was also towed from the scene.
