Liquor, drug impaired driving charges laid; bush party shut down

RCMP received a 911 call from a female in distress on Range Road 11 at Highway 12.

Saturday, October 19th

5:01 p.m. – RCMP received a 911 call from a female in distress on Range Road 11 at Highway 12. The 47-year-old Lacombe woman advised she was assaulted in a vehicle and left by the side of the road by her boyfriend. The female was first assaulted by the accused outside the Monkey Top Saloon in Bentley and the assault continued inside the vehicle where the male punched her in the face. When she tried to exit the vehicle, she was pulled back into the vehicle with some hair ripped out of her head. Her life and that of her children and pets were also threatened. The male also threatened to destroy her house. The victim eventually managed to get out of the vehicle and witnesses stopped to assist her. A 52-year-old Red Deer man is charged with assault, uttering threats against a person and two counts of uttering threats against property and animals.

Sunday, October 20th

11:07 p.m. – A 17-year-old Eckville female is facing charges in relation to a driving incident behind Eckville outdoor rink. A 911 call was placed to RCMP after a 22-year-old male was reported to be unconscious on the ground after reportedly jumping on the hood of a vehicle driven by his girlfriend. The female advised that she had been previously assaulted by her boyfriend. She is now facing charges of impaired driving, having a blood alcohol level over .08 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The male is also facing a charge of assault.

Tuesday, October 22nd

7:37 a.m. – RCMP are investigating a vehicle fire on Range Road 20 in Red Deer County. A burned truck was found on the west side of Highway 592 in the ditch. No one was around the vehicle at the time members arrived on scene. The incident was called in by a passerby.

9:34 p.m. – A 40-year-old Sylvan Lake male received fines in relation to a complaint of impaired driving. An anonymous caller advised that the male had consumed alcohol and was driving around Sylvan Lake. The vehicle was located by RCMP parked in a back alley behind Bowman Circle however it later passed the police cruiser and was stopped in a driveway of a residence on Westview Drive. A breath test was administered however the male was found not to be officially impaired. He was issued fines however for transporting liquor in a vehicle within easy reach and operating a motor vehicle without holding a valid licence.

Thursday, October 24th

2:46 a.m. – An RCMP member located an intoxicated male outside Chef ’s along Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. The male was initially passed out and arrested for public intoxication, however, the male became aggressive to police as they attempted to transport him to cells and began resisting members. He fell as a result of the struggle and sustained an injury resulting in EMS being called to assist. The male then became uncooperative with EMS members and spat in the face of an attendant. An 18 year-old Calgary male is charged with assault and obstructing a peace officer.

11:09 p.m. – A bush party on Range Road 14 in Lacombe County was shut down by RCMP after reports of vehicles speeding in the area. Calls were received of several youths in the vicinity of Machinery Road where alcohol was believed to be involved. When members arrived, between 100 and 150 youths were at the party. Several fines, including trespassing tickets, were issued as a result.

Friday, October 25th

3:05 a.m. – Two RCMP members were in the process of transporting a male to cells in Sylvan Lake when they observed a male driver pulled over on Highway 20 southbound. The vehicle had its driver’s side door open and when police approached the male they detected a strong odour of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When questioned, the male produced two grams of marijuana, a bong and a pipe. A 16-year-old Sylvan Lake male is now facing a charge of possession of marijuana. He was also issued a 24 hour suspension due to his recent consumption of the drug.

7:22 p.m. – A 58-year-old Victoria, B.C. male is facing impaired driving charges after a report by witnesses of a vehicle swerving in and out of traffic, including crossing over the centre and fog lines on Highway 20 near Aspelund Road and almost hitting the ditch five times. The call was dispatched to Rimbey and Sylvan Lake RCMP with Rimbey members intercepting the vehicle. The male driver admitted to consuming alcohol and showed obvious signs of impairment. He was charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level over .08.
