Long weekend antics; warning issued for pair firing potato gun

CMP received a call from a Red Deer County peace officer who stopped a vehicle roadside on Township Road 380.

Saturday, August 2nd

4:26 a.m. - RCMP received a call from a Red Deer County peace officer who stopped a vehicle roadside on Township Road 380. The 24-year-old male GDL driver from Markerville was found to be in possession of alcohol. A breath sample was taken and the male was suspended for 30 days with his vehicle towed from the scene.

8:23 a.m. - Police attended an address on 45th Street after a complaint was received of a group of people firing a potato gun in the yard. Constables located a male and a female at the residence who admitted to using a homemade potato gun to shoot off potatoes. They were issued a warning. Another male who was involved had left the area. The 20-year-old Sylvan Lake male was later located on outstanding warrants, arrested and lodged in cells.

8:48 p.m. - A 911 call was received of an unwanted male at an address in Hewlett Park Landing. The male had been walking around a parking lot in the area for approximately two hours and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or another substance. He was last spotted walking around Waves Coffee House where RCMP located him. The 24-year-old Red Deer male was arrested for public intoxication and was lodged in cells until sober.

10:07 p.m. - A fight between two females at Chief’s Pub and Eatery resulted in police and EMS attendance. A 911 call was placed after the two females in their late twenties began having a physical altercation. RCMP found one of the females lying on the floor with a lump on her head. She did not want to press charges. The other female fled the scene in a vehicle. The matter remains under investigation.

Sunday, August 3rd

2:22 a.m. - An 18-year-old male is facing an assault charge in relation to a domestic dispute on 35th Street at Lakeshore Drive. Witnesses reported hearing a female screaming and a male yelling up and down the beach. The male was seen pushing the female as they were going into the bush area along the beach. The male was arrested in the area and the 17-year-old female was also charged after having been found to be in breach of the conditions of an undertaking.

8:01 a.m. - A 30-year-old Red Deer male is facing an assault charge in relation to a domestic dispute on Hinshaw Drive. Police were called after a 24-year-old female was physically assaulted by her brother following a verbal argument. The male was found walking towards Red Deer on Highway 20 south of 47th Avenue where he was arrested.

2:09 p.m. - A roadside suspension was issued to a 29-year-old B.C. female after a vehicle was stopped on Highway 11 at Highway 766. The female was initially stopped for speeding in the 100 km/hr zone and a smell of liquor was detected on her breath. After providing breath samples, the female was issued a 72 hour suspension and her vehicle was towed at the scene.

Monday, August 4th

11:30 a.m. - RCMP attended a location by the railway tracks near 48th Avenue in Sylvan Lake after a male was observed by a passerby passed out in the grass with a grey plastic bag beside him. The male was brought back to cells until sober. The 34-year-old Sylvan Lake male was also charged with breaching the conditions of his probation order by possessing and consuming alcohol.
