MAGIC SHOW - Magician Braden Pole was at the Sylvan Lake Community Centre in support of Beacon Hill Elementary.

A fundraiser was held over the weekend in support of Beacon Hill Elementary School in Sylvan Lake.

While most of the Beacon Hill fundraisers have been for the playground, this Magic Show was held in order to raise money for the other needs of the school.

“We had two shows and sold out the first show and had 146 tickets for the second show,” Magic Show Organizer Samantha Priegnitz said. “We had a magician from Airdrie come, his name is Braden Pole and he was the runner-up of the Calgary Stampede Talent Show last year. He was great.”

On top of ticket sales, the Magic Show also raised funds through other means in order to raise money for books, field trips and other miscellaneous needs.

“There was a concession, raffle table and 50-50 tickets being sold at the event,” Priegnitz said. “We don’t have final numbers but we brought in over $4,000.”

The event wowed the crowd, with the youngest in the audience having prime viewing opportunity.

“The kids all sat up front, which was really good,” she said. “He did fantastic and it was a good show.”

The fundraiser hopes to build on the community support shown to the playground fundraisers.

“This one wasn’t a fundraiser for the playground, it was for other needs at our school like books in our classrooms,” Priegnitz said. “We haven’t had a chance to fundraise for our school generally. All the other schools have been able to do that for years. There are other needs within our school like field trips and other stuff like that. This was a fundraiser for everything else.”

Priegnitz wanted to thank everyone who helped out with the event.

“It was great day and we had a lot of great volunteers willing to help out,” she said, adding, “Everyone worked hard and we raised a lot.”
