A community celebration honouring the history of Sylvan Lake is set to start Thursday.
1913 Days, which will celebrate Sylvan Lake’s 109th birthday with fun from every decade throughout the four-day festival.
There are many exciting activities planned for the full weekend including a Varsity Hall Dance, a movie in the park featuring The Little Rascals, the Art Show and Gala, the Fire Hall Pancake Breakfast, the Soap Box Derby, the 1913 Days Parade where 20 floats are registered, the Antique Car Show, the Family Disco Dance Party, horse-drawn wagon rides and more, culture and tourism supervisor Channelle Brooker said.
Some of the events are happening for the first time this year.

In preparation for the event, many people have been on board to volunteer to help bring this year’s celebration.
“Lakers are the best. We’ve got a ton of community members on board to volunteer, which really helps us to bring these events together.”
Businesses in the community have also supplied a ton of support, Brooker said.
“We’ve had some amazing support from local businesses who continue to step up and support Town events and activities. We also have some exciting events popping up through other local businesses, organizations and service clubs that are sure to be a hit.”
More information about the various events going on during 1913 days is available on the visit Sylvan Lake website.
“Lots of planning and preparation goes into hosting events like 1913 Days. It’s a joint effort through many Town departments, vendors, and organizations and we appreciate everyone who lends a helping hand.”
