Marijuana, cocaine, cash found during vehicle search; charges laid

A 20-year-old Red Deer female was issued a driver’s suspension as a result of strict alcohol-related driving conditions.

Saturday, September 7th

7:33 a.m. – A 20-year-old Red Deer female was issued a driver’s suspension as a result of strict alcohol-related driving conditions. Police observed several females getting into a vehicle on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake with the driver having difficulties starting the vehicle. The female was found to have been drinking and was driving under a GDL licence, which is not allowed. As a result, her vehicle was towed and she was issued a suspension.

10:02 p.m. – RCMP attended a residence on Falcon Ridge Drive in Sylvan Lake after a 29-year-old female called police to advise that her intoxicated 26-year-old ex-boyfriend had vandalized her residence by smashing a pane of glass in her front door after she told him to leave. The male left the area and could not be located. The matter remains under investigation.

Sunday, September 8th

9:31 a.m. – A single vehicle collision was dispatched to Sylvan Lake RCMP after an off duty police officer reported a woman with injuries just north of the traffic circle on Highway 20. The 40-year old Red Deer female was riding her motorcycle north of the traffic circle when she attempted to turn around and lost control colliding with a road sign. She landed in the ditch and received injury to her leg but fortunately no other injuries were reported.

2:33 p.m. – A Sylvan Lake peace officer assisted RCMP in effecting an arrest after the officer conducted a check on a male and found him to be in breach of conditions not to possess alcoholic beverages. The 34-year-old Red Deer male was observed with alcohol on 45th Street at Lakeshore Drive and was arrested and charged with breaching his probation order.

Tuesday, September 10th

2:21 p.m. – RCMP arrested a male after a Sylvan Lake peace officer stopped a vehicle on 50th Street at 44th Avenue in Sylvan Lake. The peace officer noted a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and contacted RCMP. A further search of the vehicle by RCMP members uncovered a large quantity of marijuana, cocaine and a large sum of cash. A 23-year-old Red Deer male has been charged with trafficking marijuana and cocaine and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Thursday, September 12th

11:59 a.m. – A two vehicle collision resulted in an elderly female being taken to hospital but fortunately no major injuries were reported. RCMP and EMS attended Highway 12 at Highway 20 in Lacombe County after an 87-year-old female proceeded from a stop sign on Highway 20 into the path of an oncoming vehicle on Highway 12 driven by a 30-year-old female. The 87-year-old female advised that she was suffering from chest pains as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital as a precaution. Charges are expected to be laid against the elderly female for proceeding unsafely from a stop sign.

11:31 p.m. – RCMP were called to a residence on Rozier Close in Sylvan Lake after a 55-year-old male reported that a female in his home was severely intoxicated and aggressive and he wanted her removed. No assault occurred and the homeowner did not wish formal charges, however, as a precaution, members arrested the female for breach of peace and lodged her in cells until sober.
