A Sylvan Lake man is dead following a two-vehicle collision in Jasper National Park on Monday morning.

A Sylvan Lake man is dead following a two-vehicle collision in Jasper National Park on Monday morning.

Jasper RCMP and emergency services attended the scene on Miette Hot Springs Road at around 11:40 a.m., where it was determined a motorcycle collided with a full-sized pickup truck.

Police say the motorcycle was heading toward the hot springs at the time of the crash, while the truck was leaving the area.

The motorcycle’s sole rider, a 28-year-old Sylvan Lake man, was said to have lost control of the unit before crossing the centreline on a curved part of the road and colliding with the truck. He was pronounced dead on scene, while the truck’s driver and lone occupant was unharmed.

An RCMP collision analyst is continuing to investigate the incident, which forced the temporary closure of Miette Hot Springs Road.

Parks Canada, EMS and Jasper Fire also assisted on scene.
