Motorcyclist ‘laid down’ his bike, broke leg while avoiding child on bike

A 21-year-old is facing several charges in relation to a standard traffic stop on 46 Street at 50 Avenue in Sylvan Lake.

Saturday, May 4th

11:01 p.m. – A 21-year-old is facing several charges in relation to a standard traffic stop on 46 Street at 50 Avenue in Sylvan Lake. The male driver was fined for not wearing a seatbelt; however, a visual check of the vehicle also resulted in the recovery of a large hunting knife and a rifle, which was placed in the back seat of the vehicle. The male did not possess a firearms licence and was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

11:40 p.m. – RCMP made patrols in the Fieldstone area of Sylvan Lake after reports of youths checking door handles on vehicles parked outside various residences. Both foot and vehicle patrols were conducted, however, no one was located and nothing was reported stolen.

Sunday, May 5th

3:59 a.m. – Another incident of youths checking vehicle door handles was reported on Old Boomer Road in Sylvan Lake. RCMP arrived on scene and located a 19-year-old male, two other males, aged 15 and 16, and a 16-year-old female. A search of the 19-year-old’s backpack resulted in the confiscation of a small quantity of LSD, marijuana, baggies and a scale. The male was arrested and lodged in cells.

Tuesday, May 7th

8:57 a.m. – A 41-year-old male is facing charges after police attended an address on Lakeshore Drive at 51 Street in Sylvan Lake. The male driver was found to be impaired and two samples of his breath resulted in charges of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over .08.

9:25 p.m. – A complainant contacted RCMP advising of a possible intoxicated driver leaving Cities Pub in Sylvan Lake heading toward Sobey’s liquor store. The suspect vehicle was located and the male driver was found to be intoxicated. The 25-year-old was given a breathalyzer and failed resulting in a charge of impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was driven to the residence of a relative and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Wednesday, May 8th

5:49 p.m. – A 55-year-old motorcyclist was injured as he tried to avoid a young cyclist on 47th Avenue near Ryders Ridge in Sylvan Lake. The male was approaching the intersection and did not see a child riding his bike into the crosswalk, without activating the crossing lights. As a result, the motorcyclist laid down his bike resulting in a broken leg. RCMP, firefighters and EMS attended the scene and the male was transported to hospital for treatment. The young child on the bicycle left the scene and could not be located.

7:14 p.m. – RCMP attended a domestic dispute on Range Road 11 in Red Deer County. A 29-year-old male reported that his 26-year-old ex-spouse had assaulted him by punching him in the face in the presence of their daughter and was damaging household property. When members arrived, they stopped the female in her vehicle and further investigation resulted in the woman being charged with assault and mischief under $5,000.
