An extensive review of Sylvan Lake’s history, published as a special section of Sylvan Lake News last May has won a national newspaper award for the team involved.

The 32-page section titled ‘Happy 100th Birthday Sylvan Lake!’ garnered first place in Newspapers Canada’s Great Idea Awards competition when winners were announced last week. It was entered in the special sections category for community newspapers with circulations 4,000 to 24,999.

The section featured a variety of stories and pictures about the community’s history and was complemented with advertising from local merchants designed following an historic theme.

The annual awards program honours outstanding advertising and promotional campaigns produced by daily and community newspapers from across the country, stated the announcement of winners.

This year, 60 newspapers submitted over 260 entries in eight distinct award categories.

Awards will be presented during the INK+BEYOND newspaper conference in Charlottetown, PEI on May 29.
