Sylvan Lake will be home to an unique event on Aug. 18 courtesy of Funhaus Ltd.
The Red Deer company will be holding Bounce at the Beach in Centennial Park on Aug. 18, complete with an inflatable Irish pub.
The day-long event will have a variety of inflatable play apparatuses for children and families to play on, along with the Irish pub. According to the event application, the pub will be serving a variety of local craft beers.
Because the event will be serving alcohol, and not just the fun inflatable set-up, the event is considered a Class A event. That means the final decision on the event comes down to Council.
Sylvan Lake Town Council gave the OK for the event at a recent council meeting with a few conditions.
The motion made by Council says the organizers must acquire an Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission licence before the event day. As well, the organizers must submit a $3,000 damage deposit to the Town.
“I’m willing to give this a try,” said Sylvan Lake Mayor Sean McIntyre.
“If they come back next year to make this an annual event, I would like to know what they believe they are bringing to the town.”
Sylvan Lake RCMP were approached by Town staff to see if there were any concerns or issues with the event.
The RCMP described it as an “inflatable house that you can enter – they put tables and chairs down and you are surrounded by the inflatable structure.”
The condition RCMP made about the event is all alcohol must stay within the confines of the inflatable pub.
Pop and snacks will also be available to purchase, according to the even’t application.
Admission to the event will be sold the day of at an information tent at Centennial Park for $10 each.
“Wrist bands will be sold for $10, this will allow them to bounce all day,” the application reads.
Along with the Irish pub, other inflatables include: home run derby, monster obstacle, sumo suits and touchdown bungee.
