No injuries in school bus collision

RCMP were called to assist the fire department at a residence on Westview Drive in Sylvan Lake.

Sunday, December 8th

9:55 a.m. – RCMP were called to assist the fire department at a residence on Westview Drive in Sylvan Lake. A garage at that location caught fire after a wood burning stove was left unattended for a few minutes. Flames were extinguished quickly by fire crews. There were no injuries.

Monday, December 9th

11:51 a.m. – Members were conducting a check stop on 47th Avenue in Sylvan Lake when a vehicle continued through without stopping and ignored directions to pull over. The vehicle was pursued and stopped on Highway 20 at Memorial Trail. The male driver exhibited obvious signs of impairment and was administered a roadside screening device. A 37-year-old Sylvan Lake male is now facing charges of impaired driving and driving with an alcohol level over .08.

Wednesday, December 11th

3:51 p.m. – RCMP attended a motor vehicle collision involving a school bus and a truck on Lakeway Boulevard at Memorial Trail in Sylvan Lake. The drivers and witnesses involved advised that the rear end of the bus slid out while the driver was turning a corner and was struck by a passing pickup truck. School children were present on the bus when the collision occurred however no injuries were reported.

8:55 p.m. – A 52-year-old Calgary male is facing an impaired driving charge after RCMP attended a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on Range Road 23 near Highway 11A. A call was placed to dispatch by a witness advising that a male was hunched over behind the steering wheel of a vehicle. The male exhibited obvious signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene. The accused was administered a roadside screening device and is charged with impaired care and control of a vehicle and having a blood alcohol level over .08.
