Police on lookout for men trying to break into vehicles

A witness called RCMP to report two males trying to break into vehicles at an oilfield shop near the Kuusamo Industrial area.

February 2nd

8:28 a.m. A witness called RCMP to report two males trying to break into vehicles at an oilfield shop near the Kuusamo Industrial area. The two males fled in a stolen pickup truck before members arrived on scene but the vehicle was later seen traveling at a high rate of speed by Red Deer County officers past Township Road 380 at Range Road 30. RCMP members were unable to locate the vehicle, however, a good description of two male suspects was obtained and the investigation is ongoing.

11:22 a.m. A homeowner was issued a $500 fine under the Sylvan Lake noise bylaw after a complaint of loud music and partying coming from a residence on Lark Close. The homeowner was issued the fine due to continuous complaints regarding noise coming from the residence and multiple visits made by police to that location.

February 3rd

1:13 a.m. A RCMP member on patrol conducted a traffic stop on 50th Avenue at 50th Street in Sylvan Lake after spotting a suspicious vehicle with the licence plate not visible. The female driver was found to be driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle and she was not able to produce her driver’s license. She is now charged with three Traffic Safety Act offences and was also arrested for possession of crack cocaine which was found in the vehicle. The female was remanded in custody as she was also found to be on probation at the time of the offences.

2:45 a.m. A male is facing a charge of failing to comply with conditions of his undertaking after he was seen by RCMP coming out of a bar on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. The male was intoxicated and was on conditions not to consume alcohol. The male also had outstanding warrants for similar offences. He was lodged in cells until sober and was released to later appear in court.

February 4th

9:47 a.m. Several complaints of vehicle vandalism were reported to police along Old Boomer Road and Westview Drive in Sylvan Lake. Vehicle rear windows were smashed out as they were parked in front of residences along the street. One owner noticed a small hole through the rear driver’s side window but the cause is unclear. Nothing appeared to be stolen from the vehicles. An investigation is ongoing.

February 5th

11:34 p.m. A female is facing charges of impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. RCMP were called to Highway 20 at Highway 11 after a male called in a possible intoxicated female driver who hit the ditch at Highway 20. The female claimed to have slid off the highway and as the complainant was helping her out of the ditch he detected alcohol on her breath. When police arrived, she was given a breathalyzer and was officially charged with impaired driving.

February 7th

5:48 p.m. Police were called to the Sylvan Lake Walmart after three males were caught trying to steal items from the store. Two youths and an adult male are charged with breaching conditions of their undertakings to have no contact. The adult male is also facing a charge of possession of cocaine.
