Proclamations, appointments, rezoning handled at council

During their regular meeting Monday night, Sylvan Lake councillors:

During their regular meeting Monday night, Sylvan Lake councillors:

● passed second and third readings of a bylaw rezoning portions of The Vista In Ryders Ridge for phase 2 development in the northeast corner of the quarter section.

Phase 2, which will be accessed through Phase 1 from Ryders Ridge Boulevard, will include medium lot residential (R1A) and narrow lot general residential (R5) districts as well as a public facility district which will contain a storm water pond.

A public hearing was held earlier in the meeting where there were no speakers for or against the bylaw.

● heard Mayor Sean McIntyre make three proclamations. They are for Seniors’ Week from June 2-8, for Muscular Dystrophy Week from May 25-31, and for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month during May.

● appointed Councillor Jas Payne as Deputy Mayor for the period May 29-June 5 when the previously appointed Deputy Mayor, Councillor Megan Chernoff, will be in Niagara Falls attending the Federation of Canadian Municipalities convention along with Mayor Sean McIntyre, Councillor Dale Plante and the town’s chief administrative officer, Betty Osmond.

● named Jordan Sinclair as a member of the Municipal Planning Commission to fill a vacancy. Kris Lindberg was appointed to the Community Services Committee to fill a vacancy. The term of both appointments is until the organizational meeting in October. Both are new applications who do not currently sit on a town appointed committee, according to information provided by Osmond.
