Secondary suites authority bylaw rejected

Sylvan Lake town councillors on Monday rejected second reading of a land use bylaw amendment

Sylvan Lake town councillors on Monday rejected second reading of a land use bylaw amendment that would have seen secondary suite authority delegated to the development officer.

Several residents spoke at the bylaw’s public hearing, noting their disapproval of the proposed amendment. Some councillors felt it would be better to address the issue as part of a land use bylaw review.

“It seems to me like we’re trying to make a decision on something that we’re going to be reconsidering when we review the land use bylaw,” said Councillor Jas Payne. “It almost seems like the sort of decision that we should be putting off until we have that land use bylaw review.”
