The roof was raised as deafening cheers went up from close to 500 people at Sylvan Lake’s community centre Saturday night (just before 10 p.m. Sat. Mar. 22, 2014) when it was announced Sylvan Lake made the Top 2 in the Kraft Hockeyville competition.
“We’re top in the west – now there is one more challenge for Sylvan Lake. To become top in Canada in the Kraft Hockeyville competition. We can do this,” said committee chairman Graham Parsons.
When the votes were announced tonight Sylvan Lake posted the highest total of the Top 4 communities – 1,563,797. In the East we’re competing against Kingston, Nova Scotia which posted 1,472,836.
Salmon Arm, in the west tallied 847,193 votes while Central Bedeque, PEI in the east scored 1,403,259 votes.
Voting is open for just 48 hours from the announcement — until Monday (Mar. 24) night at 10 pm MST and judging by the numbers we need to count about 3-4 million votes in that time.
“Start voting – but even more important, spend a couple of minutes contacting all your friends, relatives, businesses associates and everyone you know asking them to vote, vote, vote, vote,” encouraged Parsons.
