Sylvan Lake RCMP nab stolen property on Kijiji

Sylvan Lake RCMP have charged two men in connection to the stolen property

The Sylvan Lake RCMP arrested two locals who attempted to sell stolen property online.

RCMP arrested Mitchell Jeffrey Murray, 35, and Taylor Austin Kemp, 25, both from Sylvan Lake, on July 4.

A break and enter at a cabin in the Buck Lake area was reported to RCMP on June 15. Several of the reportedly stolen items were found to be listed on the Kijiji website.

“Assistance from the home owner who remained diligent about seeking his stolen property was instrumental in the RCMP solving this investigation” says Staff Sergeant Andrew Shepherd.

RCMP were able to recover the property with the help of the owner.

Other stolen items, including pieces of identification documents, were also in the possession of the accused at the time of the arrest.

Murray has been charged with nine Criminal Code charges, one charge under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and four traffic related charges.

RCMP say he is facing charges which include three counts of trafficking stolen property, two counts of being in possession of forged documentation and one charge of being in possession of stolen cheques.

Kemp has been charged with three counts trafficking in stolen property and breach of probation.

Both Murray and Kemp have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on July 19.
