The Town of Sylvan Lake honoured the Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt, Sask. by lowering the flags at the Municipal Government Building to half mast on April 9.
The Town also lit the lighthouse using green lights, to honour the team who’s colours are green and yellow.
Mayor Sean McIntyre thanked the Town staff for the consideration and thought in honouring the victims of the April 6 crash.
“This is a tragedy and Canada is in mourning. We are standing with Humboldt and the families,” said McIntyre.
McIntyre said the flags and lights was a move of solidarity.
Fifteen members of the Humboldt Broncos were killed last week in a crash with the team’s bus and a semi-truck. The were travelling to Nipawin for a playoff game, to be played that night.
A vigil was held in Humboldt Sunday night at the team’s home arena. Families, friends, teammates, community members as well as political figures were in attendance.
“Across the nation, our hearts and our communities are united by the tragic accident,” said McIntyre.
