Three charged in thefts from Canadian Tire, Walmart and parked vehicles

A 55-year-old Sylvan Lake male is facing charges in relation to an assault that occurred at the Beach Front Resort

Saturday, May 18th

2:30 a.m. – A 55-year-old Sylvan Lake male is facing charges in relation to an assault that occurred at the Beach Front Resort on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. A 44-year-old female advised that she was punched in the head several times by the male after she refused to have sexual relations with him. The male also threatened to kill her dogs. Charges of assault and uttering threats to kill animals have been laid.

3:25 a.m. – A 42-year-old woman called police after she was surprised by a male in the back yard of her residence on 50th Street in Eckville. An intoxicated male, unknown to the woman, appeared in her back yard with kegs of beer and sat at her fire pit. The complainant became frightened after the male became aggressive with her and she contacted police to have him removed. When she called the RCMP, the male left the area.

7:31 p.m. – RCMP were called to a multiple motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 near Range Road 11. The hood on a van flew up causing the driver of the van to slam on the brakes which resulted in a chain reaction collision, with two cars colliding into each other and into the van. One vehicle ended up in the ditch. One male received minor injuries as a result of the collision.

Tuesday, May 21st

12:13 a.m. – RCMP were called to a domestic violence incident on Parkland Drive in Sylvan Lake. A 19-year-old female called dispatch advising she was punched in the face several times and thrown into a television. Her cell phone was also smashed. A 23-year-old male is facing a charge of assault and mischief under $5,000. Alcohol was a factor.

7:29 p.m. – Three males from Red Deer are facing charges in connection with theft from vehicles in Sylvan Lake. A female victim returned to her vehicle in Canadian Tire parking lot to find her purse and various other items stolen. Her spouse also located a pair of keys in the vehicle which belonged to another vehicle in the parking lot. He activated the attached key fob to identify a suspect vehicle which was later seized by police. In the suspect vehicle were various items stolen from other vehicles and from Canadian Tire and Walmart stores in Sylvan Lake. Charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 are three males, aged 18, 19 and 25. The 25-year-old male is also facing a charge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Wednesday, May 22nd

11:07 a.m. – A 37-year-old female is facing several charges in relation to a domestic dispute on Hammond Close in Sylvan Lake. Her 39-year-old spouse called RCMP advising that he was assaulted and that he and their children were threatened. The female is facing charges of assault, uttering threats against a person and uttering threats to property.

Friday, May 24th

1:01 a.m. – A 911 call to RCMP resulted in several charges laid against a 45-year-old male. Police received a tip that an intoxicated male called a taxi company to bring him gas as his vehicle was nearly empty. The vehicle was located near Fas Gas on Herder Drive but the driver attempted to evade police and continued onto Hagerman Road where he exited the vehicle. His attempt to flee on foot was blocked by a large fence and he was arrested at the scene. He is facing charges of driving while disqualified, operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance. The male was on outstanding warrants for impaired driving.
