Three commercial projects among building permits in January

Commercial development accounted for about one-third of the value of construction permitted in January

Commercial development accounted for about one-third of the value of construction permitted in January, according to month-end figures issued by the town.

Permits were issued for three commercial construction projects. The permit for a change in use and renovations for Hot Yoga Studio to locate in the neighbourhood mall at 117 Lakeway Blvd. was valued at $264,000. Tenant improvements were permitted for Prairie Dawgs in Hewlett Park Landing valued at $189,600 and for Liberty Tax Service in Ryders Square valued at $77,600.

Four permits were issued for new single family homes which accounted for just over 54 per cent of the month’s total. Two of the new homes are in Ryders Ridge, one in Beacon Hill and the other on 50th Avenue in the cottage area. The total construction value of the four permits was $862,497.42.

In the first month of 2012 permits were issued for five new homes compared to four this year.

Permits were also issued last month for a detached garage, two residential interior renovations and a basement development.

Total value of construction approved during January was $1.573 million, down about 35 per cent from the first month of 2012 when permits were issued for $2.441 million in new construction.
