A simple traffic stop for speeding grew into much more for Sylvan Lake RCMP, according to Cpl. James Allemekinders.

A vehicle was stopped on Lakeshore Drive near 46th Street about 10 p.m. last Friday. Upon stopping the vehicle it was determined the driver had been drinking, a 24 hour suspension was issued and the vehicle towed.

A large quantity of cash as well as a number of Percocet pills were seized from the vehicle.

Eddi Daniel Rogers, 33, a passenger in the vehicle, has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well as possession of the proceeds of crime.

“We believe that we have seized not only illegal drugs but the profits that came from trafficking of drugs,” said Allemekinders in a news release.

Rogers was released on $2,000 cash bail as well as a number of conditions. His first appearance in Red Deer Provincial Court is on Sept. 10.
