RCMP and the fire department responded to the accident just before 6 p.m. on Nov. 26

Sylvan Lake RCMP and the fire department responded to a head-on collision Tuesday night on Hwy. 11.

Sgt. Stephanie Lesyk with the Sylvan Lake RCMP said a call came in about a collision just before 6 p.m. on Nov. 26.

The collision occurred between 50 Street and 60 Street along Hwy. 11.

Lesyk could not say a potential cause to the incident.

“The collision is still under investigation and we are looking at what could have caused it,” Lesyk said in a phone interview Wednesday.

“It appears to have been a head-on collision. But we don’t know what caused it right now.”

Two women, drivers of both vehicles involved in the collision, were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Lesyk was unable to describe what kind of injuries the drivers had, but categorized them as “major injuries.”

While first responders tended to the scene, traffic in both directions was rerouted.

The names of those involved will not be released at this time by the RCMP.
