Two Sylvan area nominees for Women of Excellence awards

Two Sylvan Lake area residents are among 19 outstanding women nominated in nine categories for the 2013 Women of Excellence Awards

, announced Red Deer & District Community Foundation Apr. 26.

Katherina Mercedes Cummins is one of two nominees in the entrepreneurship category. The other nominee is Leona Mae Quantz Staples of Innisfail.

Beverly Anne Anderson of Norglenwold is the only nominee in the environment category.

The other categories are arts, culture and heritage; athletics, recreation and fitness; business and the professions; community building; education and training; health and wellness; and human services.

All of the women come from diverse backgrounds, sectors and age groups but are similar in their exceptional contribution in making Central Alberta a better place to live, work and play, stated the announcement.

The awards gala, which takes place June 12, “is our celebration of innovation, leadership, achievement and talent as demonstrated by women in our community. The awards honour contributions of our nominees, who serve as role models for women and girls.”

The foundation’s mission is to be a community catalyst and grow a legacy which strengthens the quality of life in Red Deer and Central Alberta. It manages a collection of endowed funds established by individuals and corporations. All endowment funds are invested in a professionally managed portfolio to support charitable activities in the community.
