Sylvan Lake RCMP are continuing their investigation into the theft of an urn along with several other items of value from a rural residence near Sylvan Lake last month.

Police say the property south of town was broken into between Dec. 17 and 27. A handmade wooden urn box storing cremated remains was taken along with two kittens.

Jewelry, two samurai swords, two laptops and a number of firearms were among the other items stolen.

A vehicle was also taken, but was later found in Penhold.

Police are encouraging the person responsible for the thefts to consider turning in the stolen items − the urn, in particular.

“Obviously, this item is of significant sentimental importance to the victim’s family,” notes a police statement issued last week. “Police would like to see this urn returned to the rightful owners, and are requesting the public’s assistance in locating it.”

Members of the public with any information on the stolen items or kittens, or the person or people responsible for taking them, are asked to contact the Sylvan Lake RCMP detachment at 403-858-7200, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
