Further details have been released by RCMP about a crime spree which involved an attempted murder in the Sylvan Lake area.

They were called to a residence outside Sylvan Lake about 10 p.m. June 3 for an offence involving firearms.

On arrival, police learned an adult male and an adult female visited a residence stating they would seriously injure the victim and his spouse if they weren’t given money and jewellery.

The assailant was carrying a firearm, and at one time, allegedly fired the weapon at the male victim. “The weapon did not discharge, and no other attempts were made to discharge it again,” reported RCMP Sgt. Patricia Neely, in a media release. “Money and property were taken from the residence by the two perpetrators … The victims are well known business people with no known ties to any criminal activities.”

Andrew Waunch and Ashley Chambers were identified by police as the alleged perpetrators. Both are facing numerous charges for this and other offences committed in the following days.

Waunch was arrested by Red Deer RCMP on June 10 after a pursuit in which shots were alleged to have been fired. He is subject of a 37 count information which is currently before the courts. He is currently facing a variety of charges including attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, break and enter into a residence and commit robbery, unlawful confinement and point firearm pertaining to incidents which occurred on June 3, as well as charges stemming from incidents on June 7, 8, 9 and 10, including offences relating to taking of a motor vehicle by menace and use of a firearm, break and enter into a residence, robbery, flight from police, dangerous driving, and multiple other related charges.

Chambers turned herself in to Airdrie RCMP detachment on Sunday.
