March 1, 1932 - February 14, 2025

In loving memory ~

It is with profound sadness that the family of Aneta Halvorson announce her passing at the age of 92. She will be greatly missed and was a gift to all.

Aneta was born to Bruce and Ada Hagerman in Chaplin, SK on March 1, 1932 - a few hours ahead of being a leap-year baby. The family moved to a farm south of Sylvan Lake when Aneta was 4 years old.

Aneta attended school in Sylvan Lake. She liked school, but not the walk there due to the huge hill they had to navigate. When they could, they would ride their bicycles or climb the hill and sled to the bottom. She completed high school at Lindsay Thurber in Red deer. She stayed at the high school during the week and travelled home for the weeded via train. Following Aneta's high school graduation, she enjoyed her independence by working in Innisfail at the Berscht Drug Store, she earned $100.00/month, with room rent of $16.00/month, buying and cooking her own food. She then moved to Edmonton to become a nurse, but found she struggled with the reality of suffering and death, thus did not complete the program.

Moving back to Sylvan Lake area she fell in love with and married Howard Halvorson on May 7, 1955. Howard also fell in love with Aneta's little girl, Connie, born in 1953, whom he would adopt and raise as his own.

Howard hauled gravel while Aneta cooked for the road crew. In 1956, their son, Glenn, was born and, together, they enjoyed several years filled with gypsy adventures. In 1958, Howard and Aneta bought a new home in red Deer. In 1959, another daughter, Jennifer, was born, completing the family of five.

In 1967, they bought a quarter-section of the original Halvorson family farm, south of Sylvan Lake. Howard and Aneta took pride in developing a not only beautiful, but functional, farm. The years saw large gardens, and an assortment of poultry and livestock.

Aneta enjoyed many varied activities including canning, gardening, cooking, sewing, needlecraft, and preserving, winning many ribbons at the local fairs. With what she produced on the farm, she delivered bi-weekly to many households in the area. She welcomed busloads of school children to experience farm life, plus entertained family and neighbours for coffee, conversations, and homemade treats.

Her family continued to grow to include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom called her 'Butterfly'.

Aneta is survived by her three children: Connie Matson (Bernd Hullman), Glenn (Pam) Halvorson, and Jennifer (Keith) Boyce, her grandchildren: Dallas (Tamara), Charmaine (Domenico), Cherilyn (Teddy), Nolan (Lindsey), Brandon (Jessica), Ashley (Ken), Travis (Candice), and Derek (Edna), and her great-grandchildren: Anja, Kate, Maia, Chantelle, Michael, Siennna, Natalie, Beckett, Sawyer, Finnely, Lewis, Benaiah, Zachary, Macklin, Paitence, and Olivia, her brother: Jack (Val) Hagerman, and her two sisters-in-law: Shirley and Dixie Hagerman.

Aneta was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Howard, parents: Bruce and Ada Hagerman, sisters: Agnes (Felix), and Gertrude (Ewart), and brothers: Bruce and Tom.

You will always be with us in our memories because of the live that we have shared. Farewell Mom, Grandma, Butterfly.
