In loving memory ~
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Arno Baron of Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Arno was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1947 to escape the destruction in Europe caused by WWII. He grew into a young man and joined the RCAF in the early 1960's where he met his first wife, Carol. They grew to be a family when Paul and Kristina were born while he built a business in the Fraser Valley. However, early 1990's, Arno was struck a blow when Carol developed and succumbed to cancer. Arno moved on when he bought his first motorcycle and met his second wife, Carolyn in Abbotsford. The two were wed in 1995 and he found happiness with three more girls being added to his family, Christine, Jackie and Joanne.
Arno and Carolyn spent the next 15 years travelling around North America on two wheels. In 2004 the couple moved to Sylvan Lake where Arno found kindred spirits in the shooting community, the Veterans Association, and the Sylvan Lake Legion. Arno became a master coach in the Alberta pistol shooting scene. Those who tutored under him often became provincial champions. Between coaching, riding his motorcycle, having coffee at Tim Horton's with the regulars, and attending Veteran's functions, he mentioned that retirement kept him way too busy.
Sadly, in 2016, Carolyn passed away and Arno found himself in a new season of life. He tried cruising in Germany and Central America and being the social bug that he was, he widened his circle of friends spending quality time with Marcia and then Marlene as he slipped into the role of elder statesman. We want to thank the folks in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer who knew Arno for your friendship with him. Arno spoke highly of you and thoroughly enjoyed your company.
He requested that no service be held when he died. Rather he said that we should raise a coffee for him, shot a target for him, ride a motorcycle for him.
Ride in peace, Arno.
