LITTLE, David Roderick
December 21, 1928 – April 24,2012
It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of David Little at the age of 83. A descendant of one of Edmonton’s pioneer families, Dave was born in 1928 in Edmonton Alberta. He was the last surviving member of the third generation of Little’s, involved with brickmaking and distribution at J.B. Little And Sons Ltd. brickyard. The company was established in 1893 by his grandfather and for 97 years was located in Riverdale. The property was redeveloped into multiple family housing and is a lasting legacy now known as “The Brickyard”. His working life was spent at the brickyard, which produced the brick that was used in the construction of scores of buildings and homes in Edmonton and Alberta. Along the way, Dave was involved with the Masonic Lodge, The Shriners,The Royal Order of Jesters and the Rotary Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved woodworking, curling and golf. He spent a lot of family time at Sylvan Lake, Alberta where he resided with his wife, Orral and at his home in Palm Springs, California. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend of so many, his love of life, comraderie and humor will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Orral, three children, Jack, Peggy (Tom), and Don (Leanne), four grandchildren, Brian, Jennifer (Dexter), Carrie-lee (Cody) and David, two great-grandchildren, Kian and Ivy plus numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his three sisters, Peggy, Mildred, and Doris, and his brother, Jim. David spent the last three months at the Centennial Centre in Ponoka, Alberta. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff in the Chinook House for their excellent care and attention. A Celebration of Dave’s life was held at Grace United Church, 6215-104 Avenue, Edmonton, AB. on Tuesday May 1, 2012. A private family interment will be held on a later date, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dave may be made to the Al Shamal Shriners, 14510-142 St. Edmonton, AB. T6V 1H9.
