ORD, Frank

Frank Ord of Sylvan Lake passed away peacefully on April 27, 2017 at the age of 89. Frank is survived by his three children, Glenn, Steven and Linda, and their spouses Sheila, Kathy and Brian respectively, along with his grandchildren Benjamin, Jackson, Jennifer and Sarah. His loving wife Ellen also resided in Sylvan Lake and predeceased him in 1998. After a successful career in television broadcasting and later foreign aid, Frank and Ellen retired to Sylvan Lake in the early 1990s.

Frank was born in Newcastle, grew up in England before emigrating to Canada where he later joined the CBC as a self-taught engineer. Frank is best known for his insatiable travel bug. He and Ellen travelled extensively, including living and working for six years in Malaysia with CIDA and India with UNESCO. Following retirement from the CBC, Frank worked as a volunteer CESO executive based in Mbabane, Swaziland in Southern Africa. CESO assignments also took him to Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad.

Although Frank led a fulsome life, the last few years were difficult due to health issues. The family is most appreciative of Rodney and Linda De Martin who provided so much help and friendship. A big thank you. The family also appreciates all the medical professionals in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer who provided important services which allowed him to live independently. Frank will be missed by his family and friends. A private memorial will be held.
