It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gabriela Egli of Sylvan Lake, AB at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 61.

Gabriela was born in Zurich Switzerland.

At the age of 4 she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

In September 1975 she met Alfred.

She completed her training to be a pharmacy technician assistant in 1976. In August 1976 Alfred came to work in Canada.

Nicole was born in 1977. In 1978 they were married and soon after moved to Canada. Michele was born in 1979. Stephan was born in 1980.

In 1980 they bought Viking Meat Market, and sold it in 1994.

On July 28, 1991 Gabriela received a kidney from a motorcycle rider in Edmonton. We will forever be grateful to him and his family for the sacrifice that they made so that Gabriela was able to live the life she did. He lived on in her for another 26 years.

The family moved to Sylvan Lake in 1995 and opened Sylvan Lake Sausage and Meats. In 2006 SLSM was sold due to the declining health of both Alfred and Gabriela. They enjoyed retired life for almost 2 years before Gabriela started dialysis, for the next 9 years.

Two of the worst experiences of her life, the death of her son and loss of her first leg, brought new family and friends into her life that would offer love and support both in the hospital, at home, from near and far. No matter what was happening to or around her, Gabriela was always ready to point out the positive in any situation as well as share her beautiful smile with anyone and everyone.

She is survived by her loving husband Alfred, daughter Nicole, cat Romeo, father Ehry, sister Beatrice, aunt Anne Marie, Heart family of Sharon & Godwin, Zach, Zane, Aaliyah, and Heart family of Serena & Francis, Samuel and Jeffrey. She was predeceased by her mother Ruth in 1988, daughter Michele in 1979, and son Stephan in 2001.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 5033 - 47a Avenue, Sylvan Lake, Alberta on November 15, 2017 at 1PM.
