James (Jim) Gordon Steppler

April 12 1943 - March 23 2014

Jim passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre, surrounded by his loving family after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Valentine and Beulah; brother, Arnold and sister, Eileen. Jim is survived by the love of his life, Marlene; sons, Gordon (Lori), Ray (Minette), and Randy (Doreen); as well as grandchildren, Kaitlan (Terry), Jason, Laren, Kamryn, Madisen, Lance, Donivan, Robin and Ryan. Also surviving Jim is his sister, Jean, numerous in - laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, including special friends, Frank and Linda Shufletoski. An animal lover extraordinaire, Jim and Marlene had many canine companions: Tippy, Lady, Pepper, Goldie and Xena - lucky pooches to be sure! Jim had a lifetime passion for sailing. As a youngster, growing up in Pitt Meadows B.C., he had a fascination with constructing primitive boats from any scrap of wood available. With not a lifejacket to be seen, Jim tested his creations out on the local sloughs. In later years, reflecting on these childhood adventures, he commented "It was a miracle I didn't drown"! Marlene and Jim spent countless hours on Sylvan Lake aboard 'Teal', taking part in many local yacht club activities. In more recent years, aboard 'Rainy Daze', they spent their summers on Vancouver Island, exploring the many Gulf Islands. Reading a great book while relaxing on your boat and sharing a suds or two with your Sweetheart by your side -- who could ask for anything more? Certainly not Jim! So, Jim, until we meet again,

May you always have

'A tall ship and a star to steer her by

a fair wind and a following sea'.

The family would like extend a sincere thank - you to the caring and compassionate staff at Foothills Medical Centre.
