James (Seamus) Thomas Patrick "Jim" Murphy passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Red Deer Regional Health Centre at the age of 61 years. He was born on October 4, 1950 in Dublin, Ireland to parents James Noel Murphy and Sarah Christine Keogh. James was with the 78th Field BTY in Red Deer and transferred into the Canadian Armed Forces in December of 1989 until retirement in October of 2004. He served in Cyprus on a peacekeeping tour, receiving his peacekeeping medal, as well as his CD for years served. James is survived by his wife Geeske (Gay) of 38 years, son Patrick (Angie) and granddaughter Madison, daughters Christine and Erin and grandson Liam, brothers Martin (Sharon Murphy, Robert (Autumn) Murphy and Lorenzo (Val) Murphy, sisters Maryann Brouilette, Daphne Murphy (Leonard) and Helen Murphy (Brian), mother-in-law Hinke Spijksma, brothers-in-law Sybren (Donna) Spijksma, George (Lynn) Spijksma,Wybren Spijksma and William Spijksma, sisters-in-law Hilda (Harvey) Jackson and Annie (John) Anderson, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and his aunts, uncles and cousins in Ireland. James was predeceased by his parents Noel (2011) and Christine (1978), two brothers William (Liam) and Patrick, and brother-in-law Gary Brouilette. A funeral service will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 - 67A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment was held at Red Deer Cemetery. In honor of James, memorial donations made directly to Red Deer Regional Health Foundation - Neo-Natal Unit , 3942 50A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 4E7 or to the Red Deer Ronald MacDonald House, 5002 39 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 2P2 would be greatly appreciated.
