March 7, 1972 - June 5, 2021
It is with overwhelming sadness that we say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, son, and brother. John Allan Salsbury passed away surrounded by family in Red Deer on June 5th, 2021 at the age of 49.
He leaves behind to mourn his beloved wife Carmen, daughter Sara, and sons Jonah (Alyson), Noah (Janaya), and Ethan. His parents Roy and Ann, brothers Frank (Karyn), Jim (Lisa), and Neil.
John was born on March 7th, 1972. His family moved to Glendon in 1975 where he was raised with his brothers on the family farm. Growing up on the farm fostered John's love for the outdoors. There was lots of fishing, hunting and hockey in the driveway.
In 1992 he met Carmen, the love of his life. She too loved the outdoors. On July 9th, 1994, they were married in St. Vincent Alberta. They were blessed with their four children and have created many years of memories together. The family settled in Sylvan Lake in 2000 and have called it home ever since.
For the last decade or so John worked as an outdoor salesman in Red Deer, but prior to this he was a passionate Optician. Working as an Optician gave him the opportunity to give the Gift of Sight while on various mission trips around the world. He spoke fondly of these trips and how helping people see warmed his heart.
John was a devoted family man and was tremendously proud of his children. John was the guy who always showed up and was happy to lend a hand to anyone. He was actively involved in his kids activities and spent many years coaching their sports.
John and Carmen especially loved taking the children out camping, horseback riding, and on road trips. John loved spending time with family and friends, he loved to fish, hunt, quad, sled and scuba dive. He also enjoyed playing cards, baseball, curling, dancing, and going to the movies.
John always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips, and his kind humorous spirit will live on through all of those he left behind.
Friends and family paid their respects on Friday, June 11th at Sylvan Lake Funeral Home.
Private Funeral Services are being held on Saturday, June 12 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church with Fr. Les Drewicki officiating. If desired, donations in the memory of John can be made to the Jumpstart Foundation or to the OneSight Foundation through LensCrafters.
