November 18, 1936 - April 16, 2023
In loving memory ~
The family of Keith Bickerton is heart-broken to announce his passing on April 16, 2023 at the Innisfail Health Centre. He was surrounded by his loving family and will be greatly missed. Keith was born in Rocky Mountain House on November 18, 1936 to Margaret and John Bickerton. At an early age, the family moved to Calgary and settled in Forest Lawn. He completed school in grade 11 and moved on to his life's work. His first job was in the oilfield where he worked in numerous areas of this industry, enjoying them all. Then came the housing industry. He sold new homes for Engineered Homes in Red Deer, then in 1969, was promoted as area manager to Lethbridge, Alberta - their youngest in the company. He then started his own housing company, Lark Haven Homes, and a real estate company, Bickerton Agencies, managed by his youngest brother, Brian. He received the Golden Fossil Award, awarded to men of great vision and integrity in the building industry. He was also one of the three original founding members of the New Home Warranty Program.
In 1986, Keith and his family moved back to Red Deer where he worked for Remax, receiving many sales awards. He completed his career in Sylvan Lake, developing the subdivisions of Fox Run and Lakeway Landing. Life changed with the onset of dementia and Keith retired.
Keith loved life and approached each day with enthusiasm and a wonderful sense of humour. Besides family, Keith loved music. He played guitar for many dances, a radio show, a TV show and all family get-togethers. He also enjoyed flying and was a licensed pilot, owning his own plane. He enjoyed golfing with his grandson Trevor, and garage-saleing with his granddaughter, Teresa. He was kind, compassionate, always supportive, and never judgemental.
Keith is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; his daughter Brenda and her children Teresa of Lethbridge and Trevor (Carmen Padilla) of Red Deer and Teresa's children Madeline, Marabel and Dexter Kleinfeld of Lethbridge. He will be greatly missed by two sisters Neta Story and Shirley Mitchell of Nanaimo, BC and their families.
He was predeceased by his father John and his mother Margaret, his brothers, Jack, Don and Brian, his son Neil and infant grandson Jason Stepple, numerous other relatives and Joyce's parents Hugo and Bernice Knott of Stettler, Alberta.
He will be fondly remembered by many more relatives, friends, business associates and acquaintances he made over the years.
There will be no service.
At a later date, Keith's ashes will be laid to rest with his beloved son Neil in Lethbridge. Those wishing may make donations in memory of Keith may do so to a charity of their choice.
