Lydia "Bernice" (Gefle)

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our sister, aunt, great aunt and friend Bernice Nielsen on Monday, June 4th, 2012 at the age of 77 years. She is survived by her brother Allen Gefle; her aunt May Caton and her sister-in-law Trudie Gefle. Bernice was pre-deceased by her husband Elmer Nielsen; her brother Bud Gefle; her sister Marian Stauffer and her brother-in-law Russel Stauffer. Auntie Bernie will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Judy (Vern) Payne, Terry (Lois) Stauffer, Mike (Val) Gefle, Tim (Pat) Gefle, Connie Hulsman, Donna (Doug) Cairns, Travis (Jennie) Gefle and Vivian Gjefle. Bernice was raised in the Diamond Valley area, lived most of her life in the Happy Hill district and was the proprietor of Kurly Korner Beauty Shop, Gifts and Trophies in Spruceview for many years. She spent the last few years of her life in Sylvan Lake. She was a hair-dresser, avid gardener, family historian, master of lemon pie and birthday cakes, a Bentley Generals hockey fan, and the best aunt anyone could ask for. A celebration of Auntie Bernie's life will be held on Saturday, June 16th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sylvan Lake Legion. Family inurnment at the Diamond Valley Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Bernice's name to the Red Deer Hospice.
