Melvin James Goodey “Jim”

Melvin James Goodey “Jim” passed away on January 21, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on November 24, 1947 in Red Deer, Alberta. He was the oldest of four children ad was raises north of Red Deer until he was 4 years old, when the family moved to Sylvan Lake, where he went to grade nine and the Red Deer where he graduated. Jim enjoyed mechanics and obtained his automotive and heavy duty mechanics papers and inter provincial license in Calgary.

In the early 1970’s, Jim bought Bakers gravel equipment and went on to develop “Jim Goodey Sand & Gravel Ltd “which he owned for about 45 years.

He married the love of his life, Gladys Zielger in December 1981. Together they enjoyed camping and the outdoors and going to Arizona in the winter. It was down in AZ where they became involved with “Helping Hands” and developed a large circle of friends.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Jack & Elsie Goodey, sister Linda, brother Jerry. He leaves behind his loving wife Gladys, sister Bonnie, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A Memorial will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212, 4919 50 Ave, Sylvan Lake, Alberta on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 2pm. Flowers are gratefully declined, but memorial tributes in Jim’s name may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
