In loving memory ~
On May 20th, 2023 Walter received the greatest invitation of all time. The invitation to go to his heavenly home where he would be greeted by his friends and family that have gone before him including his sister Mary, and brother Phil.
Walter was born in Brampton, Ontario. Where he along with his sister Ruth helped to raise his younger siblings Mary, Gwen, John, Jim, Paul, Phil, Elizabeth and Peter. At 14 Walter took on the role of being the main provider for the Sandusky Clan. Plowing Fields with horses, Picking berries with his sister Ruth, and finally starting his own Sandusky's Turkey business. The Sandusky's were known for their Turkey in Ontario, and then later on in central and southern Alberta.
In 1970 Walter met the love of his life Edith after returning from a trip to Timbuktu. Edith and Walter were married shortly after. They have two children David (Heather) and Sally. And one Granddaughter Eloise of whom Walter was very proud.
Walter moved his family to Sylvan Lake in 1981. Where in the summer he enjoyed sailing on his catamaran, biking and walking along the lakeshore. He also enjoyed during his early years of living in Sylvan Lake volunteering with the Sylvan Lake Fire Department and being a part of the Junior Forest Wardens with his son David. Later on, Walter could be seen at the Sylvan Lake and Red Deer Farmer's Market selling his alternative health products. Walter enjoyed gardening, growing an abundance of vegetables which he always had enough to share with the Sylvan Lake food bank. Walter enjoyed curling with the Sylvan Lake Curling Club and socializing with his church family and the Sylvan Lake Senior Center where he met a lot of good friends.
Walter was a man of faith and will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. He also had a love for ice cream, but most importantly he will be remembered for his love of his family.
Walter passed away in Southwood Hospice in Calgary, Alberta just shy of a few weeks from his 88th birthday. Although he will be missed here on earth, we know to whom he belonged. We want to Thank Kathleen our hospice nurse who we believe had "Angelic" qualities, and sang hymns, and worship songs to Walter during his final hours.
