Dr. Winston Osler Backus passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the age of 99 years old. He was born in Eckville, AB to Dr Percy and Verna Backus on October 12, 1920.
He received his medical degree from the London Hospital in London, England in 1946. After five years in the British Army, he and his wife Valmai and two sons returned to Ponoka, AB where he joined his brother in medical practice. He then moved with his family to Grande Prairie, AB in 1953 and served the community in many ways, as a doctor and MLA. In 1985, he and his wife Myrtle moved to Sylvan Lake, AB and then in 2016 they moved to Spruce Grove, AB and he subsequently to Copper Sky.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Barry and his first wife Valmai. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Myrtle, children David, Richard, Robert and Elizabeth, step-children Ried, Wayne, Myrna and Don, plus 20 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
